Hi everyone, I have a 1988 2M4 that I blew the engine on. I'm thinking about replacing the stock engine with something else. I want something with more power (natch) since the 2.5 litre Iron Duke sucks, but I would like to use something that is lighter, or at least no heavier than the OE. What are the alternatives. I have a 1997 Grand Am with the 2.4 DOHC High Output engine/5 speed that is my daily driver, but I'm told that engine has endemic head gasket problems, although I have not encountered that. I have had a gremlin in the engine electronics, though. Any thoughts?

I live in rural western Manitoba and have joined this club instead of the one in Edmonton even though it is closer; since I suspect there are more fieros in GTA. I had an 86 SE but my daughter got hit in it and it was a write-off. Fortunately no one was injured due to the good design of the fiero. So I used some of the money from that write off and bought an 88. I blew the engine in 2003, and it's been out of commission since. Now I have some time and a little money to spend on it.
