Happy New Year! FYI the 88 fiero has now hit 30 years. No more drive clean emissions to pass anymore!

You'd have to provide a source for that. Ontario doesn't have a rolling window for e-tests. Cars older than 1988 are exempted from testing, and 1988 still require it. It's been like this for years.

Exempt vehicles

Quote:
You do not need an emissions test for:

[*]electric and most-hybrid electric vehicles
[*]light-duty vehicles with a model year before 1988
[*]vehicles that are plated “Historic” under the Highway Traffic Act
[*]light-duty commercial farm plated vehicles
[*]kit cars
[*]motorcycles

See also "Why don’t light-duty vehicles with the model year 1987 and older require a Drive Clean test?"

I was under the impression that after 30 years its exempt. Hey who knows. Your info has changed my view on this. Here is a good question: 87 V.S. 88 any significant differences in emission controls? i was under the impression they were identical from 86-88 (the gt model)

I don't believe the emissions equipment changed at all during the years. All the V6s should have the same cat, etc.

Ontario law USED to be that once a vehicle is 20 years old, it would be emissions exempt. That law was change 11 years ago and the last year vehicle that received the exemption was 1987. As of 1988 and onward, every vehicle will need to be emission tested every 2 years unless its brand new (5 year exemption which is now 7) I believe 1988 is roughly when OBD1 became the standard and it had controls to help out emissions. This is probably the reason why 1988 was the year specifically changed for the emissions law. Even though the Fiero was still operating on ALDL, most American manufacturers where switching over there other vehicles to OBD1.
