Yesterday I filled up about $45.00 of gas, and the tank was full right to the top. The fuel gauge is way above the F mark. I have driven the car for about 70 Kms., and the gauge has not come down. Will it ever come down? How many Kms. can the car go on a full tank (2.8 automatic) ? any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it will come down eventually and it won't stop  Not sure about the auto, but my stock manual would get around 400km's per tank between city & hwy driving. I'd get 500km's on straight hwy runs.

Guess that's the difference between the 5spd and 4spd. I could only muster just over 400 strick highway driving - slow/steady.
The tank size changed in 87, right? That would also account for my differences.

If you drive heavy/quick acceleration plan on 300-350 per tank... unless you really tromp on it, then maybe 150/tank.

Ya I get about 300-350/tank in my 86 4spd. I consider my 1/4 tank mark the empty light - get to the next station I see lol.

your gauge might also be off/uncalibrated; they tend to drift at the resistor/sender in the tank over time..

caution:
if it reads way over full on full tank fill, it likely will read just above the empty line when (not even) close to empty.
ask me how i know

i think there was an archived pff thread on how to recal/clean up the resistor...
