I'm not too familiar with automatics, but you may need your valve body rebuilt or Toque converter replaced. When was the last time the tranny had the filter changed and flushed?

I purchase the car 3 years ago and so i have no idea what has been done to it,but that is a good place to start with the oil and filter, the scraping sound in reverse loose torque bolts? Trans from 2.8 auto are they the same as 2.5 bolt pattern which i have.I am new to working on Fieros,I have seen you drop the drive train out the bottom is this the best way, also is there a link were i can see how it is done. Thanks Tom

The auto tranny's were the same between the 4 bangers & V6's as far as I know. I normally pull the entire cradle down for most drive train work, but there is another method I have used before. I've unbolted one side of the cradle (driver side) and pulled the transmission out that way before, leaving the motor inside the engine bay only attached to the front engine mount and a support from above. Exhuast has to be disconnected and dog bone also for the motor to move up & down freely.
