Salutations, comrades of the Fiero.

I have purchased, much to my extreme delight, an '85 Fiero Special Edition 4-speed V6(with a whooping 189k). :D

I have been informed my Fiero sat underground for 5 years, reactivated and driven for another year, then chilled for another year and a half before I came along and rescued its glory.

Common sense tells me to, in order:

1) flush coolant
2) change engine oil
3) grease the joints, acceleration wire(sits on 1.5k idle), grease clutch, etc etc
4) Flush gasoline , its a year and a half old
5) change headlight motor on both sides
6) alignment
7) storage for winter
Interior roof cloth needs some heavy TLC , which is np.

In all honesty, once those 3 have been completed, I just turn it on and go. Obeys my command to fire up on single try. Perhaps a nice cleaning of the engine will do me justice too.

Am I missing something perhaps? What else can I do to ensure it is resurfaces to its all-time glory.
Anything helps!
p.s I will post pictures ;)

welcome!!!

for that HIGH IDLE, I'D CHECK FOR ANY vac leaks...
also check for brittle rubber hoses, plastic lines, any fluid leaks.
check the clutch system
a nice wash n wax
check for rust prone areas, trunk, frame/subframe!

welcome again 2 the madness & hope to meet u both!

Welcome aboard! If you find any minor engine parts that need replacing like vac lines, EGR etc, I have a 2.8L in my garage I'm selling off. It's got about 205K on it, but ran like a champ when I pulled it, no codes and was reliable enough to be a DD.

Roger that comrades.

Canadiantire will do a coolant flush for $120, Which is pretty reasonable I gotta say..!

I seemed to have fixed the idle issue. good ol lubricants.

be careful taking it there, make sure the guy working on the car has driven a four speed fiero before, knows how to release the parking brake & where to hoist the car from. All previous issues I've had with them. If need be, offer to drive the car in for them & make sure they don't put the lift under the plastic panels or the coolant lines. These younger new mechanics have never really seen much less worked on a Fiero before.

I concur your notion, I intend to be the hairs on their neck when they service my Fiero.

after 3 different incidents with them on multiple cars awhile ago, I will never take any of my vehicles there nor recommend them to friends/family. they are lying incompetent scammers.

Unfortunate.

I am under the impression that most of the mechanics that work at C.T have that "don't care" attitude, so I feel you Niko.

How about places like Pennzoil or Mr.Lube? Just a matter of finding some one who know's how to flush Fiero's I guess!

If you can find a place that doesn't use a lift but has the bay they drive the car over, all the better. You can't screw the car up if you don't have to pick jack points.

Whenever you take it, request the drive on lift. At least when the mechanic has the car in the air, he will see the jacking point to lift the wheels of the main lift.
