Hey, I am looking at an 87 GT automatic and am wondering if any of you folks have had any major issues with automatic transmissions? After my expensive clutch repair on my 86 GT I don't want to trade one set of problems for another. Anything I should look out for? Has anyone swapped the 3 speed auto for a 4 speed auto while keeping the 2.8 engine or is that even possible? Thanks for any comments. |

Don't think the stock auto has that many issues at all. If any it's probably from poor maintanence, not changing the tranny oil & filter at regular intervals. You can put a 4spd auto tranny in the car, best bet would be find a 4T60 out of an 80's GM from the same era. They are not electronic and will also use the kick down cable. Other is find a 4T60E transmission, 7730 ECM and switch the vehicle over to ODD 1. Will elimante a lot of the vacuum lines and can custom program the vehicle's ECM. |
