A little history. The headlights were a little temperamental and ultimately the left one would not stay up consistently. I could release the pressure of the headlight door and up and down the headlights would go - sometimes lucky enough to stay up.

A rebuilding I will go ...

Lookie what I just found. Interesting that the plastic little pieces have been replaced with. I like the idea though ...

Guess perhaps I should have posted a question. I have normally used Rodney's rebuild kit, but 2 rebuilds later and both failing again got me pondering a stainless route. I know that the plastic pieces are for "wear" so was not totally convinced that the aluminum drive arm, or the plastic gear would become the "wear" elements against a stainless roller.

So, I'm kinda liking the copper idea - certainly vs the aluminum drive arm.

I am though thinking of inserting a piece of wooden dowel into the center of the copper rollers. Any thoughts?

that's different. Using hole tubs disfigured the pieces though. First time I rebuilt my headlight motors on my 87, I used bolt with a non-threaded shaft. I bought one the same diameter of the normal plastic stops, cut them to proper size and beveled the edges. Used a lot of grease in them and never had another issue. ;)
