So I don't have the fabrication know-how that guys like lunatic and coppertop (just to name a few) have, my thing has been interior/audio and electronics. So here' s my latest project.

Image
The console is all custom, that's been around a while. The new thing is the ALDL display up on top. I figured out the protocol and timing of the 160 ALDL data and wrote a microcontroller to decode the 20 data words, then a second uC sends it to a OLED display. There are multiple screens selectable via a button on the dash. (Sorry for the rotated photo, photobucket refuses to flip it correctly).

Image
A mini-instrument cluster shape thanks to 3d printing!

Image
Main screen. This shows some ALDL data and some from another controller in the trunk (amp temps and voltage).

Image
Fuel related data. My 2.5 is cranky when cold so it is interesting to see how these values change as it warms up.

Image
20 raw words of data from ALDL.

Image
Bad photo but CEL codes and TPS.

Image
The other display in the rear - another uC sending data to a display and to the front display via serial. Amp and ambient temperatures, direct voltage reading.

Also got work done on the console.

Image
The EQ was the first pro unit I bought in 1988 when I was competing in CANII/IASCA, the crossovers are from 1990.

Image
And the rear. The amps are from 1991.

The whole thing is RTA'ed now and sounds pretty good. two 10" behind the seats, 6.5" midbasses under the dash firing down and 4" mids and 1" tweets in the dash.

As for the "what did I do" part, this weekend I installed new motor/trans mounts and the torque strut. What a huge difference from the old ones - they weren't in too bad shape but were worn and loose. The shifts feel so much crisper now, it's crazy. And the parts (OE style) were all available from a local jobber and CHEAP - maybe 40 bucks for all 4 pieces.

Also replaced the completely leaked out steering damper. It made a little difference if at all, but at least it was only 45 bucks.

Hey Mark.

This is awesome work! I love the attention to detail that you've put into these projects. Not everyone can pull it off but you nailed it. I see you have a knack for electronics and I might have something that I need assistance with. I'll message you later in the week for your opinion.

PS-Those amps look like Precision Power. That brings back memories of when I was into car audio. I think the last thing I bought was a pair of Sound Stream dual voice coil subs. Ugh, that was a long time ago.

Keep up the good work.

Thanks Shayne. That's appreciated especially considering the level of your fab work. Yes they are PPI AMs, near bulletproof. Back in the day they were what I wish I was competing with but had already committed to using Orion HCCA amps. They were beasts too but a little less tolerant to abuse. Back when "Made in the USA" really meant something.

Yup, let me know what you are after. Honestly I'd do near anything for one of those fancy rad supports...hell I'd do anything for the old rusty one you replaced. :)
